Darmstadt
Darmstadt is probably most famous for it's huge American military base, but besides that it is the home of the pharmaceutical company Merck, which was founded here in the 17th century by the pharmacist Emanuel Merck. I worked in the pharmaceutical analysis and quality assurance for 6 months and had the chance to make new friends and experience work in the industry. Although the city center is not as attractive, some important Jugendstil buildings still exist and are worth a visit. I lived close to Darmstadt in the small town Niederramstadt from which I commuted to my work place. As my cousin lives in Frankfurt - about 1 hour away from Darmstadt - I visited them quite some time and had the chance to arrange all the paper work for leaving to the United States as the U.S. embassy is located in Frankfurt.
