Phoenix
It was always most amazing for me to visit cities that are just sitting in the middle of the desert - like Phoenix or Las Vegas. Where do these cities get their water from and - especially the past - what made men settle exactly in this spot? A lot of big companies are seated in Phoenix, which is why the city recently grew in population. My first encounter with this city was when I was 17 and travelling from Ohio over there to visit a friend. Not aware of the fact that barefoot walking on asphalt in the middle of the summer might be detrimental to your feet I learned my lesson rather painfully. After nearly 3 years of flying frequently to Phoenix on the weekends to visit my partner who is working for the computer chip producer INTEL we finally moved together in December 2007 and now live in a house together.
